In April 2013, a safe ended up here on the public road in Ruddervoordsestraat. The safe had been stolen from a house in Torhout. However, the police had gotten onto the trail of the burglars and had started the chase. In panic, or to shake off the officers, the thieves threw the safe out of their car. And the money fluttered around here. Neighbors and passersby rushed to grab the banknotes. The owners, an older couple who had completely lost their trust in banks, recovered 11,000 euros, a fraction of the money that was in the safe.
