With more than 50,000 hectares of forest, Limburg is the greenest province in Flanders. Forests play a significant role in the global climate. By capturing CO2, they help maintain the fragile balance. Young forests capture much more CO2 than old and stable forests. At the same time, forests are suppliers of wood that is used as building material, raw material, or fuel. In principle, wood is 'climate-neutral.'
The increasing climate warming poses a threat to the health of our forests. Trees grow less well, become sick, and die off.
Good forest management is therefore important. The province of Limburg is working on good forest management together with various partners. The Limburg forest groups assist small forest owners in managing their forests well and sustainably.
