the monastery.
The interior of the church stands out for its dimensions: a 102-meter-long central nave that makes it one of the largest Romanesque churches in Europe. The church has a two-headed plan with two transepts and two choirs facing each other. The western building consists of an apse, 2 chapel galleries, a large rood screen ("imperial hall"), an octagonal bell tower and two corner turrets. The south turret houses Jean de Nivelles, a copper warrior 2.08 meters high. The collegiate church of Nivelles was consecrated in 1046 by Wazon, Bishop of Liège, in the presence of Henry III, Holy Roman Emperor.
