“Masks of Europe. Living Heritage”
From June 16 to November 18, 2012
www.museedumasque.be
Men of straw or skin, fools or harlequins, carnivals or Christmas celebrations, the European masked traditions reveal an unsuspected richness, albeit tinted with strange similarities... This exhibition invites you to discover masks made in Europe, highlighting both their originality and their common points. A focus, therefore, on the "intangible cultural heritage" of our continent.
Because the exhibition will also be an opportunity to better understand the notion of intangible heritage, as defined by UNESCO. It is also a pretext for reflection on the transmission of the intangible to our audience... to you, therefore! Interactivity and sensitivity will be the watchwords.
Come discover a museum like you’ve never seen, focused on the living and the human, and dive into the world of the European mask.
On Saturday, June 16, 2012: symposium
“Masterpiece of Living Heritage. Assessment of the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO adopted in October 2003. The particular case of the Binche carnival”
The procedure for listing the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity of UNESCO has existed since 2003; what is the first assessment? What are the tourist, financial, and identity impacts of this recognition? What is its effect on the preservation of the event? How can the transition from oral to written rules of certain events influence them? What changes have the stakeholders of this intangible heritage been able to observe? How do they experience this recognition?
Discussion, round tables, demonstrations, and an olfactory workshop.
Program available on the museum's website
www.museedumasque.be and at 064/23.89.29
Reservation required for the meal.
Symposium, demonstrations, and workshop free of charge.
