The Monument of the Jazzmen
In 1957, Jean-Marie Peterken, president of the Liège Jazz section, and Joe Napoli met. (Joe Napoli was an American soldier who ended up in Xhoris during the Von Rundstedt Offensive). They get along well. Napoli gets an idea: to organize an open-air concert with the duo Dor Peterken in Comblain-la-Tour. Two years later this crazy party started and was organized for 8 years: the greatest European jazzmen and singers such as: Chet Baker, Jacques Pelzer, Sadi, Christian Kellens, Charles Aznavour, Pétula Clark have been in Comblain-la-Tour! To honor this celebration, Napoli had this polyester statue made and dedicated it to George Paulus. On August 8, 1964, it was officially opened in honor of the 6th Jazz Festival. In 2009 the 50th anniversary was celebrated and since then, every year, at the beginning of July, jazz music sounds through the streets of Comblain-la-Tour.
