The Church of Our Lady of the Rosary in Wierde

This Romanesque construction dates back to the 11th and 12th centuries, although it was largely modified in the 19th century (addition of the sacristy, the spire, the south portal, removal of two pillars of the nave, etc.). It consists of a powerful tower to the west, three naves of six bays, a flat chevet choir, and an absidiole grafted onto the north aisle.
Explaining its particular form, the church originates from a seigneurial keep from the 11th century against which a single nave was probably leaning. This mass, four stories high, was originally almost blind, except for arrow slits, perhaps already pierced in the 12th century. This structure is topped with an octagonal spire in 1837, which is also the date of the sacristy replacing the absidiole of the south aisle.
The nave and the formerly decorated side aisles, like the choir, with blind arcades on pilasters, were almost completely removed after 1850 and were reconstructed in the first half of the 12th century. The building underwent restoration in the second half of the 20th century by architects R. Bastin and M. Genot.
