At Hill 62, the highest point in Sanctuary Wood (Zillebeke), an impressive Canadian memorial dominates the area. 'Maple Avenue' - the road which now leads you into the trees - once formed part of the Canadian front line. It was the scene of fierce fighting in June 1916, but now offers peaceful views of the spires of Ieper. In the middle of the forest, a privately owned museum with trench remains can be visited. It houses an interesting collection of old war photos on glass plates.
Open daily from 10.00 to 19.00.
Entrance fee: €10
