On the left, you see a plot with beeches that are about 50 years old, where thinning was done. Thinning is an important management measure in our forests. This allows the best trees to receive more light and space to grow. These trees remain healthier, grow thicker more quickly, and can later potentially be sold as high-quality timber. The natural value of a forest can also increase through logging operations. Strong thinning promotes more variety in the forest by encouraging undergrowth and freeing up special trees. A pile of branches from leftover crowns is a paradise for animals and mushrooms.
