The Berlindis spring is the place where the Moeillebeek (or Moellebeek) originates. According to legend, Saint Berlindis came here to wash her feet. Farmers from the neighborhood came here to get water for their cattle. Saint Berlindis is the patron saint of trees and of service against livestock diseases. Her feast day is 3 February.
Saint Berlinde is said to have lived in the 7th or earlier the 9th century. According to legend, she was disinherited by her leper father after he saw her cleaning his cup before drinking it herself. As an iconographic attribute, the saint is usually represented with a chalice in hand, referring to her father's drinking cup. In a fit of rage, he transferred all his possessions to Nivelles Abbey. Berlinde then found shelter in a monastery in Moorsel. After the death of her father, she returned to Meerbeke. From then on, she stayed with several other sisters in St. Peter's Church, which was founded by her father.
