This heathland has been grazed by sheep since 2006. Heathland restoration offers the remaining tufts of heathland from the historic field areas a number of opportunities. Fortunately, nature lends us a helping hand. Heide is building a seed bank of long-lived seeds. They remain vigorous for several decades and wait in the soil for a good opportunity to germinate.
Sheep grazing is an important management measure. By grazing the heathland, the spontaneous afforestation (of birches, for example) is prevented, the clearings in the forest are preserved and we hope for a suitable biotope for rare birds, such as the tree pipit and the woodlark.
