This is the oldest forest section of the Vagevuurbossen. It was already forested on the map of Ferraris (around 1775). Forests that have existed continuously as forests since Ferraris's time are referred to as ancient forests. Ancient forests often have a very specific flora. Characteristic species of ancient forests are called ancient forest indicators. Here, among others, you can find the eagle fern, wood anemone, double-leaf, and common Solomon's seal.
