According to many tourist pictures and guides, the Ardennes start, among other places, from Namur, while experts are actually referring to the Condroz. In other words, there is a certain confusion of names between the tourist Ardennes and the geological Ardennes. According to geologists, the Ardennes are located on a substrate dating from the Lower Devonian and older (Silurian, Ordovician, and Cambrian). Therefore, the Condroz, Fagne-Famenne, and limestone zone do not fall under this. An easy rule to remember the difference is: the Ardennes do not contain limestone, while the Condroz, Fagne-Famenne, and limestone zone do.
