Rowan:
Latin Name: Sorbus
Characteristics: The rowan is a shrub or tree up to 20m long, the leaves up to 10 cm.
Habitat: Lives in places where there is a lot of light, in an open forest.
Leaf: The leaves are oval to oblong. The leaf colour is dull green at the top, grey-green at the bottom.
Fruit: The round orange-red berries are eaten by the thrush or other birds.
Fun fact: The tree is called rowan because thrushes love the berries.
Sparrowhawk:
Latin Name: Accipiter nisus
Characteristics: The sparrowhawk is a bird of prey. As with all birds of prey, the mane is smaller than the female, but in the sparrowhawk this difference is very pronounced: the female is twice as heavy as the male.
Habitat: open forests but also in older parks and estates
Food: house sparrow, chaffinch, blackbird and starling
Threat - Enemies: The sparrowhawk has few enemies.
Defense: Fast flying.
Fun fact: The sparrowhawk is looking for a picking place in the forest. There it plucks the feathers of its prey before eating it.
