Peace and quiet area

Scientific research has shown that it is exceptionally quiet on the border between East Flanders and the southwestern part of Flemish Brabant: as quiet as it is in most places in Flanders only at night, it is so quiet here during the day. The municipalities of Geraardsbergen, Ninove and Galmaarden, the provincial governments of East Flanders and Flemish Brabant and the Flemish Region joined forces to safeguard this silent patrimony.
The Dender-Mark quiet area is approximately 28 km2 in size and is located on the territory of the aforementioned municipalities. On the approach roads, the boundary of the area is marked with specially designed information boards. You may have noticed them already.
In this area 4 walks have been mapped out that invite the quiet holidaymaker to enjoy the rural tranquility and the beautiful landscape. You had been following the West silence path for a while.
The silence is sometimes 'offered' by the vastness of the landscape, sometimes it hides in the seclusion of the forest. Even more than elsewhere, in a quiet area it is striking how much rumor you produce yourself as a hiker: your steps on the road surface, your chatter, ...
Also turn off your mobile phone. Break ties with the outside world for a moment and let yourself be overwhelmed by the quiet added value of this area. Shut it up for a moment, close your eyes and listen to the music of nature.
