The Scheldt nature is so special that Flanders has made international agreements to protect it. Nature goals are formulated and adapted areas are set up where certain types of animals can reproduce and replenish their fat reserves. A target species is, for example, the purple heron. The combination of grassland, ditches, reed land and sweet salt marshes makes this region one of the most promising zones for purple herons along the Scheldt. Something to keep an eye on!
