The first castle Ter Rijst was destroyed by the Count of Hainaut in 1169. The second castle was demolished in 1480 by a certain Karel van der Noot who had a real castle built there. That castle was largely demolished in 1868 by Viscount Théodore de Nieulant de Pottelsberghe, who gave the castle its current shape. The classicist castle is furnished as a B&B and restaurant. The 100-hectare park breathes history and boasts numerous native trees, beautiful rare flowers, a swirling animal population and phenomenal views. You can walk here in peace. In spring you can fully enjoy the beauty of the flowers in the park.
