Good ten Briele

Description

In front of the farm there used to be a chapel: "The chapel on horse legs". The original chapel was built in the early 19th century and disappeared in 1951. The following story is linked to that chapel:

At the beginning of 1800, the first De Waele came to settle on the Goed ten Briele. The current resident Yvan Cocquyt is the son of Cyriel and Maria De Waele, so this farm has been run by the same family for two centuries. Around 1800, Poesele was part of the French Empire. It was a period of wars, famine and plagues among the cattle. There was also an abnormal horse mortality on the Goed ten Briele. All the horses died one by one inexplicably. The monasteries were closed and the fathers fled. Nevertheless, the De Waele family managed to get some fathers to come to Poesele to investigate what might have happened. They came to the conclusion that only Our Lady could do something about this. The inhabitants were advised to build a chapel at the entrance of their farm on horse legs dedicated to Our Lady. The last dead horse was buried next to the entrance of the farm with the legs up and a chapel was built on it. There has never been another abnormal animal death on the court.
