Bunker constructed from reinforced concrete blocks belonging to the German Holland Stellung. The line was built between 1916-18 by the German army as they feared an Allied attack through neutral Netherlands. The Stellung runs from Knokke to Beveren and connects at Vrasene with the also German Stellung Antwerp, built in the same period. The bunkers in Evergem should be seen in the light of protecting the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal. Near Eeklo (Strobrugge), the line split into a forward defense line and a main line. The line was only used very limited and locally in a combat situation.
