It is at Nederbrakel that the various headwaters of the Zwalm merge into the Zwalm. From that neighborhood one can speak of the middle course of the Zwalm. It is therefore not entirely coincidental that a fairly large marshy area has arisen in that area, at least for its surroundings. This area is named by natuurpunt with a toponym that we find on the cadastral plans: 'Jansveld'.
