Fort Eben-Emael is still a military domain. Located on the Albert Canal, it was an important strategic point of the Belgian defense in the east. The main task of the fort was to prohibit the crossing of the Albert Canal and the Meuse. The so-called "Hole of Visé" to the south of the fortress was also defended. Today, not only are visits organized in the fort, but we also find a specialized museum with equipment, uniforms, weapons, etc. from 1940. It can be considered the museum of the battle of the Albert Canal on 10 and 11 May 1940 in which more than 700 Belgian soldiers died.
