El fuerte Eben-Emael sigue siendo una zona militar. Situado junto al canal Alberto, fue un punto estratégico importante de la defensa belga en el este. La tarea principal del fuerte era prohibir el cruce del canal Alberto y el Mosa. También se defendía el llamado "Agujero de Visé" al sur del fuerte. Hoy en día, no solo se organizan visitas en el fuerte, sino que también encontramos un museo especializado con materiales, uniformes, armas, etc. de 1940. Se puede considerar como el museo de la batalla del canal Alberto del 10 y 11 de mayo de 1940, en la que murieron más de 700 soldados belgas.
