Il forte Eben-Emael è ancora oggi un dominio militare. Situato lungo il Canale Albert, era un importante punto strategico della difesa belga a est. Il compito principale del forte era quello di vietare la traversata del Canale Albert e della Mosa. Anche il cosiddetto "Gato di Visé" a sud del forte era difeso. Oggi non solo vengono organizzate visite al forte, ma vi si trova anche un museo specializzato con materiale, uniformi, armi, ecc. risalenti al 1940. Può essere considerato il museo della battaglia del Canale Albert del 10 e 11 maggio 1940, durante la quale morirono più di 700 soldati belgi.
