Grand Place – 1370 Jodoigne
The Grand'Place of Jodoigne forms a more or less triangular ensemble that was developed in the early 18th century to accommodate fairs and markets. The square was of course located within the fortified perimeter and consisted of public and private buildings. In the 19th century, a hall dedicated to butchers, notable figures of the time who lived in the Gadale district, was erected on the upper part. This covered market disappeared in 1733, and it was around the same time, following two fires (1710 and 1735), that most of the private buildings surrounding the square were constructed. The Gobertange stone, which was widely used on construction sites of the time, gives the site a particularly bright appearance, almost resembling a village in Provence.
