Piped canal: Originally a branch of the Senne to the current Zennever discount.
This stream branched off from the Weerdemolen and is the de facto border between Eppegem and Weerde.
The current Zennever discount was dug centuries later, when the Mechelen-Brussels railway line was already in place in 1835, on the west side of this railway line, just near where this 'Kleine Zenne' ran west around Weerde. Originally, the small Senne was called the 'Leibeek' because it also collected surface and swamp water and other streams outside the Senne water at the Weerdemolen. Originally this Leibeek ran between Zemst and the hamlet (De Brug' under the Brusselsesteenweg and ran west parallel to the Senne through the Eglegem pond, and then merged back with the Senne. In the Schom and the Konijnenstraat you can still clearly see her course. On the towpath between the stationslaan and the Brusselsestenweg you can see this original Kleine Zenne bending northwards behind the playground of the youth movement.
The Kleine Zenne not only drained the Senne water along the west side of Weerde, but also collected a lot of surface water in the marshy zone around the Kleine Zenne and other streams. When the Zennever discount was introduced, leibeken were placed on both sides of the shortening for this function, which are regularly cleaned out.
