Tsjoen Brewery

Pure water is a necessary raw material to make tasty beer. It is also immediately clear why the Tsjoen brewery is located here in the Fonteinstraat.

Local production is not a modern invention. In the past, each village was a community that provided for its own needs. And that was true not least for the need for beer. From 1896 to 1964, the sixteen pubs in the wider area were supplied by this Tsjoen Brewery. Private labels such as Kenia Pils, Extra Bock and Super DD flowed from the brew kettles. In addition to a barn in the back yard and the brewery at the front on the right, the house of brewer Charles Tsjoen has also been beautifully preserved. After the First World War, the man, together with three companions of the Wannegem resistance group 8540, was awarded the 'Intelligence Service Order Medal' for their espionage activities for the Allies.
