Along the road between Dikkebus and Brandhoek (Vlamertinge), there was a row of huts ("shacks"), which were used by the medical posts ("field ambulances") between July and November 1917. A cemetery also had to be built. Most of the graves in the cemetery date back to the Third Battle of Ypres. Nearby artillery positions had been taken, which explains that in the end, 2/3 of the dead belonged to artillery units. Two flowerbeds will be built during the winter of 1917-1918. When the Germans approached dangerously during their spring offensive in the spring of 1918 (up to Dikkebusvijver), the cemetery was closed.
