Langs de weg tussen Dikkebus en Brandhoek (Vlamertinge) stond een rij barakken ('huts'), die tussen juli en november 1917 gebruikt werden door medische posten ('field ambulances'). Er diende noodzakelijkerwijze ook een begraafplaats aangelegd te worden. De meeste perken van de begraafplaats dateren van tijdens de Derde Slag bij Ieper. Vlakbij waren artillerieposities ingenomen, wat verklaart dat uiteindelijk 2/3 van de doden tot artillerie-eenheden behoorde. Twee perken zouden nog tijdens de winter van 1917-1918 aangelegd worden. Toen de Duitsers tijdens hun Lente-offensief in het voorjaar van 1918 gevaarlijk dichterbij kwamen (tot aan Dikkebusvijver), werd de begraafplaats gesloten.
