The fort was built in 1907-1908 and was already heavily under German fire in 1914. On October 3, 1914, the fort was taken by the Germans. In 1939-1940 an anti-tank protection was installed and the fort became part of the new Koningshooikt-Waver-linie (KW-linie).
Many bats have found their home in the fort. The most common species are the basketed bat, the lake bat, the water bat, the fringed bat, the Brandt bat and the bearded bat. The domain is a European Special Protection Area.
