Once, the Bortier Gallery in Brussels was a book mecca, now it attracts hungry tourists. Since 1848, around ten booksellers resided in the covered complex, built in a neo-Renaissance style with burgundy facades, wooden ornaments, and a undulating glass roof. The gallery was designed by Jean-Pierre Cluysenaar, who was also the architect of the Saint-Hubert Galleries in the city center.
The Bortier Gallery in Brussels was a mainstay in the world of antique books for more than 150 years, until the city of Brussels decided to turn it into a trendy ‘foodspot’.
