Pascal Verbeken describes in his beautiful book 'Grand Central Belge' how in 1892 the Belgian Parliament approved the law on the introduction of one standard time throughout the kingdom. This time determination took place here at the Royal Meteorological Institute of Belgium in Uccle, and was passed on to the station master of Brussels-North. The stationmaster had all the station clocks set at the same time. But did you know that the municipal authorities that did not apply the official time to tower and other public clocks had to deal with the courts?
