Watermill Muldershof

On the Molenbeek we find a water mill of the top gear type near the Muldershof. This means that the water is directed in such a way that it ends up at the top of the blades of the wheel. To give the water sufficient strength, the water for the mill is stored in a basin. To the right of the mill you can see the overflow of the reservoir, to drain the excess water that is not needed for grinding. The oldest mention of the mill dates back to 1446. Until the end of the 18th century, the flour mill was a 'delicious' mill: the owners owed 'duties' or taxes to the lord of Balegem.The mill remained in operation until the early 1950s. Afterwards, the mill was dismantled and transformed into a private house. The original miller's house was on the corner across the street.During the monument year 1975, the decaying wooden water wheel was replaced by the current metal wheel. Today, the wooden water gutter has also been replaced by a metal one.
