In Kerkem we find a very typical rural church, the Romanesque St. Peter's Church. Little data is available about the oldest construction phases. In the 18th and 19th centuries, both minor and more radical modifications and repairs followed.
The substructure of the tower and part of the nave is partly made of fieldstone and iron sandstone, possibly recovered material from an original building from the Romanesque or early Gothic period.
Inside, we find valuable 17th- and 18th-century furniture, including 17th-century wooden statues of Our Lady and of Saint Blaise. The richly sculpted pulpit dates from 1687. The organ is also 17th century.
The church, together with the cemetery and the cemetery wall, was protected in 1976.
Extensive restoration work is currently underway, after part of the ceiling came down in 2012.
