Del = dael, low, valley. In old writings we read: "Hyquam van eenen berge neder, dander reet opwaert uter delen". This street is part of the Aatseheerweg. This road is a Bavay-Velzeke-Ghent and ran via the Koekamer, the Berg ten Haute, Delfdries, Bossenare, Ellestraat and Eikenberg to Oudenaarde and then on to Kruishoutem. Until the construction of the Oudenaarde-Ronse motorway (N60) at the end of the 18th century, the Aatse heerweg was the main connecting road between Oudenaarde, Ath and Mons.
