Description

An officer, on his way to the battlefield in Germany, made a promise during his passage in Villers-la-Ville that, if he survived the war, he would erect a chapel in honor of the Blessed Virgin. Later, this surviving officer returned with an antique statue he had rescued from a fire. Without any wealth, he settled as a hermit for years near the abbey. He begged until he had the necessary sum of money to fulfill his promise to have the chapel built.
The chapel was erected in 1731 as mentioned in the memorial stone. Soon the place became a place of pilgrimage.
Every year on the second Sunday of May the tour takes place. It leaves at 9am at the church of Villers-la-Ville.
