The Cloth Hall of Herentals is a classic cloth hall from the Middle Ages. The accompanying tower was a belfry. It now contains a carillon with 49 bells. It is one of the 56 belfries in Belgium and France that have been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Before 1430 the building is mentioned as gulden huys, 'meethuys and loter-huis. In that year it was given the name 'town hall'. In the fifteenth century it was rebuilt by the cloth makers and wool weavers as a cloth hall. In old documents, from before 1430, the building is mentioned as 'town hall'.
