The mill was built in 1794 in Arendonk and transferred to Retie in 1934. Because it was the last mill in a row of six, it became known as the New Mill. Since the restoration in 1981-1982, it has been able to grind again and has been given the name De Heerser. In 2005 the mill underwent a new refurbishment. This colourful wooden stake or standard mill is one of the oldest mill types in our country. The substructure at De Heerser is covered by a brick construction and is therefore not visible. The blades can be oriented perpendicular to the wind in order to catch the wind as much as possible. The interior, which includes a collection of miniature windmills, can be visited on request.
