Castle de Merode

Lordship elevated to barony in 1620 by Archduke Albert in favor of the Rubemprés and in 1686 to principality by Charles II. Domain later came into the possession of the de Merode family. Almost no remains date from before the reconstruction by the architect F. Neuville circa 1765. Beautiful classicist building enriched with Louis XVI ornaments. Two régence tinted pavilions on the site of the former neerhof and the farm. French landscaping from the same era. Canals filled under A. de Mérode circa 1850 while adapting the park to the then fashionable English fashion. Rear façade partly modified, end of 19th century.
