From October 1914, German troops occupied the municipality of Hooglede. Many services and facilities were set up there, including a number of cemeteries. The current cemetery had its origins in the cemetery 'Hooglede Ost', which was laid out in 1917. After the war, German graves from the area were brought together. Now about 8,200 German soldiers rest here. At the back of the cemetery you will find the 'Ehrenhalle', decorated with a large colourful mosaic.
In the new reception pavilion you will find more information about the cemetery. A walking loop takes you from here to other WWI sites in Hooglede.
