Lighthouses have recently become a popular subject for books and documentaries. This means that things are not going well for the lighthouses. All lighthouses on the Coast are either unmanned or no longer operational. Unfortunately, those were beautiful times, so high and lonely at the top of the tower. The lighthouse of Heist (on Koningslaan) is still a stunning example from the early twentieth century, in pure Art Nouveau style. This impressive light beacon, 34 meters high, was the first concrete structure on the Coast at that time. The tower has recently been completely restored and refreshed.
