Vuurtorens zijn de laatste tijd een geliefkoosd onderwerp voor boeken en documentaires. Dit betekent dat het niet goed gaat met de vuurtorens. Alle vuurtorens aan de Kust zijn ofwel onbemand ofwel niet meer in werking. Helaas, het waren mooie tijden, zo hoog en eenzaam bovenin de toren. De vuurtoren van Heist (aan de Koningslaan) is nog een prachtig exemplaar van het begin van de twintigste eeuw, in pure Jugendstil. Deze imposante lichtbaken van 34 meter hoog was toen de eerste betonnen constructie aan de Kust. De toren is recent helemaal hersteld en opgefrist.
