Stationsstraat z.nr. Former station building of Sijsele, located on the old railway bed Bruges-Eeklo, built in 1862; Since September 2005 it has been repurposed as a youth centre. On February 13, 1862, the company "Société Anonyme du Chemin de Fer d'Eeclo à Bruges" was founded. The 28 km long section between Eeklo and Maldegem was inaugurated in November 1862; the operation of the Maldegem-Bruges route followed in June 1863. On 1 January 1897, the State took over the operation of the Ghent-Eeklo-Bruges line; On February 26, 1904, a definitive takeover was signed. In addition to the stations between Eeklo and Bruges, especially in Balgerhoeke, Adegem, Maldegem, Sijsele and Steenbrugge, the company opened another stop in nearby Donk in 1878. The railway crosses Sijsele from east to west until Assebroek.Na the establishment of a military quarter on the Dorpsstraat in 1951 (cf. Dorpsstraat) a freight railway to and from the barracks is provided. In February 1959, the last passenger transport was carried out by diesel van. In 1960 the Bruges-Maldegem railway was dismantled; In 1963, the railway connection with the military quarter was abolished. Today, all that remains is the old bed or the Old Railway Path - in the 1980s as a walking, cycling and bridle path as part of some tourist routes -, the old station building, the former house of the station master (no. 61) and a level crossing house in the Bolakkerstraat (no. 1).
