Boudelo Abbey was a Cistercian abbey in Klein-Sinaai, near Sint-Niklaas, Belgium. The name Boudelo, which consists of two parts, can be explained as follows: Bouden, flattery form on -in, derived from Baldwin, and lo a grove on a sandy, higher place.
The year 1197 marks the establishment of a hermitage on the Coudenborn site, when one or more monks from St. Peter's Abbey in Ghent, led by Boudewijn van Boekel, settled in Klein-Sinaai as hermits. The small community grew into an abbey on a location between the current Koebrugstraat and Kloosterstraat. Recognition followed at the beginning of the 13th century by the bishop of Tournai.
