The abbey farm of Papinglo is situated in Maldegem-Kleit, on the southern corner of the Kleitkalseide and the N44, known by many tourists as a connecting road between Aalter and Maldegem towards Knokke.The Papinglo domain, of which the first written reference can be found in a document from 1170, is situated in the Maldegemveld, in the 12th century still a wild heathland that was gradually brought into cultivation, together with the Drongengoedhoeve and the Burkelhoeve.
