The Ter Borgtmolen was, according to tradition, donated in the 12th century by Arnaud of Oudenaarde to the Abbey of Ename, along with two other watermills in the area. In the second half of the 16th century, the mill was owned by the Count of Lalaing. Until 1967, Theofiel Roman kept the mill in operation. The previous private owner-resident had the estate with the watermill renovated. The passage next to the waterwheel has a drop of 1.2 meters. On the left bank, the bypass connects to the Maarkebeek. The mill is still operational.
