The waiting reservoir on the Bettelhovebeek is a nature reserve in the Belgian city of Zottegem. The reservoir on the Bettelhovebeek is located in the Flemish Ardennes in South-East Flanders. The reserve is 1 ha in size and is located on the territory of the boroughs of Strijpen and Velzeke and connects to the sub-area "Jan De Lichte" of the Natuurpunt reserve Middenloop Zwalm. It is part of the Flemish Ecological Network.
The Bettelhovebeek carries spring water from Grotenberge to the Molenbeek in Velzeke and flows through a landscape of deciduous forest, fields and moist meadows. The Molenbeek in turn flows into the Zwalm. After canalization of the Bettelhovebeek, the reservoir was built in the 90s to avoid flooding at the confluence. The supply of sludge created a swamp in the reservoir.
