The Valley of the Kikbeek Source is a nature reserve of 120 hectares in and around a former sand and gravel pit in Maasmechelen, where springs provide a body of water, which then feeds the Kikbeek and flows to the Meuse. The valley is part of the Hoge Kempen National Park. The Kikbeek Source is located west of the urban area of Maasmechelen. The nature reserve with an expansive body of water is situated in an excavated part of the steep edge of the Meuse valley towards the Kempen Plateau. The valley lies south of the E314 motorway, north of the Road to Zutendaal near the village of Opgrimbie. The Ecoduct Kikbeek, completed in 2006, connects the Valley of the Kikbeek Source with the Mechelse Heide nature reserve to the north of the motorway. The valley is protected at the European level as part of a Natura 2000 area.
