The Groenendael racetrack is located in the Soignes Forest in Belgium. Built in 1887, after King Leopold II found the Boitsfort racetrack too small. In 2001, and after a significant renovation in 1985, the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Horse Breeds Improvement in Belgium, founded in 1834, went bankrupt and the track as well as the facilities were abandoned. Most of the buildings were demolished between 2001 and 2013.
