First, this street was named “de Tyeselerweg”, later “die Naemsche Baene” and then the Oude Milsebaan and later Millestraat. To the east, there is the Stosberg and the Dinkedel. To the west, there is the Kapiteinsbos and the street crosses towards the forest, in the place called “De Kartuizers”, hence Kartuizersstraat. Here, from the end of the 15th century, there was a part of the forest owned by the Charterhouse monastery from Leuven.
The block on the left side of Kartuizersstraat was formerly called “den Cauter”. At this place, the free farmers were allowed to cultivate a piece of land at their own expense, provided they paid a rent to "the lords of Belanden". On the right side lies the Stosberg. At this place, a battle took place on March 22, 1793, between the French and the Austrians. The fleeing French were finished off on the road descending from the hill, which since then has been called Slagbaan (the border between Haasrode and Blanden, on top of the Stosberg). The bullet in the facade of Chateau de Namur comes from Austrian artillery.
Address: Kartuizersstraat, Blanden
