Description

NL : Hawthorn hedges served as a meadow fence when there was no barbed wire. In the name, by the way, you can hear the sharp thorns that are so typical of the species. Usually, unshaved bushes bloom in the month of May. Count the number of pistils (styles) per flower. If there is only one in each flower, then you have a one-style hawthorn bush in front of you. More than one? Then it is its brother, the two-style hawthorn (C. laevigata).

FR : Les haies d'aubépines servaient à délimiter les prairies avant l'apparition des fi¬ls barbelés. Les rameaux d'aubépine sont en effet redoutablement épineux. Les aubépines non taillées fleurissent au mois de mai. Si le pistil de la fleur que vous regardez compte un style (sorte de dard), vous avez affaire à une aubépine à un style ; s'il y en a plus d'un, c'est l'aubépine à deux styles (C. laevigata).
