KARTUIS
Herne, a green and rural municipality in the Pajottenland, is known for its historic 'Carthusian monastery' where monks brewed their own Carthusian beer from the years 1084. On 18 October 2003, the Carthusian statue was inaugurated on the town square of Herne. Today you can enjoy a delicious KARTUIS in restaurant De Egelantier, located in front of the statue. Owner Wilfried Vierendeel took the initiative to brew a beer that closely resembles the original recipe. Today's Kartuis is brewed in Woesten (West-Vleteren). It is a beer with refermentation in the bottle, has an alcohol content of 8%. And it exists as a dark double or blond triple. Both beers are brewed according to time-honored tradition and with respect for the original flavors. This means that the beer "Kartuis" has a very personal and distinct taste of its own. But 'Kartuis' is no longer limited to the beer itself, but also 'Kartuiskaas' and 'Kartuiskoek' are made on the basis of this beer. KARTUIS is therefore the calling card of the municipality of Herne and the ideal product to promote the municipality.
